El Cartel de Yankee producido por Gringos!

ImageThe production of El Cartel, the next album of reggaeton sensation Daddy Yankee, gets rolling; counting with the participation of North American hip-hop producers Scott Storch and Akon. Although in the first phases of recording, Yankee has been prepping for this Interscope/El Cartel project since the end of his last tour through Latin America.

To continue the project, Yankee will travel to Miami on Monday, August 14. Scott Storch is a well-known, Miami-based producer who has worked with the likes of P. Diddy, Pharrell Williams and Kanye West, among many others. Born in Senegal, Akon is an R&B singer and producer who became popular with the hit, “Locked Up.” Luny Tunes will also participate and Yankee will record a few sessions in Los Angeles, California for the album, which is slated for a fall release.

“It is an honor that these producers have collaborated on this album. I’m pumped and I know the final product will please all my fans. You won’t be disappointed,” said the artist.

Daddy Yankee recently received the outstanding news that the video for “Rompe,” the first single off the album Barrio Fino en Directo, was nominated for Best Hip-Hop Video at the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards. The Puerto Rican singer will face stiff competition for the award: Black Eyed Peas, Kanye West w/ Jamie Foxx, Common and Three 6 Mafia. Yankee’s is the only Spanish-language video that received a nomination in this category. -Ervin Colon
